 Ganger! staar du nu og drømmer!
 Nej, jeg ser det. Vejen strommer
 Hurtig bort dig under Hoven.
 Stærkere dog frem du sprænge,
 Du er endnu midt i Skoven,
 Medens jeg dig ventet længe
 Har ved Gurre Borgeled.
 Skoven slipper, alt jeg øjner Tovelilles fagre Bur,
 Skovens Træer bag os glide sammen til
 en dunkel Mur ;
 Men end vildere du jage!
 Ser du Skyens Skygge trække
 Over Mark og Mose frem?
 Før den Gurres Grund kan række,
 Maa vi staa ved Toves Hjem ;
 Før den Tone, som nu klinger,
 Gaar for Evighed til Ro,
 Maa dit rappe Hovslag ryste
 Gurre-Borgens lille Bro ;
 Før det Blad, der falder,
 Bækkens Bølger naa'r,
 Maa din Vrinsken gjalde
 Lydt i Gurregaard.
 Skygge kom og Tone dø.
 Dyk dig Blad i Vove :
 Volmer ser sin Tove !

 Non, je vois bien que le chemin file
 À toute vitesse sous tes sabots.
 Mais il te faut aller encore plus vite,
 Tu n'es qu'au milieu de la forêt,
 Alors que je m'attendais depuis longtemps
 À te voir à la barrière du château de Gurre.
 La forêt nous libère, déjà je distingue la belle volière de la petite Tove,
 Derrière nous les arbres de la forêt se resserrent
 En un mur obscur ;
 Mais poursuis ta course encore plus farouchement !
 Ne vois-tu pas les ombres des nuages s'étirer
 Loin sur la campagne et le marais ?
 Avant qu'elles n'atteignent le domaine de Gurre,
 Il nous faut être devant la demeure de Tove.
 Avant que le son qui maintenant résonne
 Ne s'évanouisse pour l'éternité,
 Il faut, coursier, que les vifs coups de tes sabots
 Ébranlent le petit pont du château de Gurre ;
