Abbiamo abitato il fogliame che a sera
si fa cupo, i chiari templi, sentieri e aiuole
con gioia - i suoi sorrisi, mentre io parlavo piano -
Ora è vero, per sempre se ne va.
Alti fiori appassiscono o si spezzano,
si fa smorto e si spezza lo specchio dello stagno
ed io mi perdo nell'erba putrescente:
palme mi pungono con dita acuminate.
Un sibilante tumulto di fradicio fogliame
a tratti scaglia invisibili mani
fuori verso le pallide pareti dell'eden.
Afosa e la notte e affollata di nuvole.
