Die ihr meine Brüder seid,
Arme Menschen nah und ferne,
Die ihr im Bezirk der Sterne
Tröstung träumet eurem Leid,
Die ihr wortelos gefaltet
In die blaß gestirnte Nacht
Schmale Dulderhände haltet,
Die ihr leidet, die ihr wacht,
Arme, irrende Gemeinde,
Schiffer ohne Stern und Glück --
Fremde, dennoch mir Vereinte,

Wer den Weg nach innen fand,
Wer in glühndem Sichversenken
Je der Weisheit Kern geahnt,
Daß sein Sinn sich Gott und Welt
Nur als Bild und Gleichnis wähle:
Ihm wird jedes Tun und Denken

Holder Schein, an deine Spiele
Sieh mich willig hingegeben;
Andre haben Zwecke, Ziele,
Mir genügt es schon, zu leben.

Gleichnis will mir alles scheinen,
Was mir je die Sinne rührte,
Des Unendlichen und Einen,
Das ich stets lebendig spürte.

Solche Bilderschrift zu lesen,
Wird mir stets das Leben lohnen,
Denn das Ewige, das Wesen,
Weiß ich in mir selber wohnen.

Möchten viele Seelen dies verstehen,
Möchten viele Liebende es lernen: 
So im eigenen Dufte sich berauschen, 
So verliebt dem Mörder Wind zu lauschen,
So in rosiges Blätterspiel verwehen,
Lächelnd sich vom Liebesmahl entfernen,
So den Abschied als ein Fest begehen,

Bruder und Schwester sein,
