Hermann-Hesse-Gesänge - Gesänge des Abschieds

Song Cycle by Rudolf Wagner-Régeny (1903 - 1969)

1. Wie sind die Tage schwer!
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie sind die Tage schwer!
An keinem Feuer kann ich erwarmen,
Keine Sonne lacht mir mehr,
Ist alles leer,
Ist alles kalt und ohne Erbarmen,
Und auch die lieben klaren
Sterne schauen mich trostlos an,
Seit ich im Herzen erfahren,
Daß Liebe sterben kann.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), no title, written 1911

2. Abendgespräch
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Was blickst du träumend ins verwölkte Land?
Ich gab mein Herz in deine schöne Hand.
Es ist so voll von ungesagtem Glück,
So heiß - hast du es nicht gefühlt?

Mit fremdem Lächeln gibst du mir's zurück.
Ein sanfter Schmerz ... Es schweigt. Es ist gekühlt.

3. Gang bei Nacht
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Busch und Wiese, Feld und Baum
Stehen in begnügtem Schweigen,
Jeder ganz sich selbst zu eigen,
Jeder tief in seinem Traum.

Wolke schwebt und lichter Stern,
Wie zu hoher Wacht berufen,
Und der Berg mit steilen Stufen
Türmt sich dunkel, hoch und fern.

Alles weilt und hat Bestand,
Ich allein mit meinen Schmerzen
Treibe fern von Gottes Herzen
Weiter ohne Sinn durchs Land.

4. Nach dem Fest
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Von der Tafel rinnt der Wein,
Alle Kerzen flackern trüber,
Wieder bin ich denn allein,
Wieder ist ein Fest vorüber.

Traurig lösch ich Licht um Licht
In den still gewordnen Räumen,
Nur der Wind im Garten spricht
Ängstlich mit den schwarzen Bäumen.

Ach, wenn dieser Trost nicht wär,
Müde Augen zuzumachen...!
Und ich fühle kein Begehr,
Jemals wieder aufzuwachen.

5. Der Künstler
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Was ich schuf in heißer Jahre Glut
Steht am lauten Markt zur Schau gestellt.
Leicht vorüber geht die frohe Welt,
Lacht und lobt und findet alles gut.

Keiner weiß, daß dieser frohe Kranz,
Den die Welt mir lachend drückt ins Haar,
Meines Lebens Kraft verschlang und Glanz,
Ach, und daß das Opfer unnütz war.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Der Künstler", written 1911
