Sich vor der Sonne Pracht
Und mit gesenktem Haupte
Erwartet sie träumend die Nacht.

Der Mond, [der]1 ist ihr Buhle
Er weckt sie mit seinem Licht,
Und ihm entschleiert sie freundlich
Ihr [frommes]2 Blumengesicht,

Sie blüht und glüht und leuchtet
Und starret stumm in die Höh';

En met gebogen hoofdje
Verbeidt zij al dromend de nacht.
 
De maan, die is haar minnaar,
Hij wekt haar met strelend licht,
Voor hem ontsluiert zij vriend'lijk
Haar vrome bloemengezicht.
 
Zij bloeit en gloeit en straalt maar
En staart omhoog, stil, verstard;
Zij geurt en zij weent en zij huivert
Van liefde en liefdessmart.

 Ik huilde doodsbang in mijn slaap.
 Ik lag voor aap, het bleef stromen
 Zelfs toen ik allang was ontwaakt.

 Ik droomde dat je weg was
 Mijn hoofdkussen bleek doorweekt
 Tranen om jou bleven komen
 Zo erg was ik van streek.

 Waar ben ik? Een kelder. Daar brandt licht!
 En voetje voor voetje... `k schrik m'n hoedje! 
 Want hier is plotseling die gier
 En bijt me toe: `Wat moet je!' 

 Ik schiet hem morsdood: `Weesgegroetje!' 
 Nu kom ik bij jou, mijn god, wat bloed je
 Ik ruk de ketting los en pluk
 De tranen van je snoetje.

 Je geeft me, als dank, je Toverring
 Daar zing ik het lied, op jouw lijf geschreven
 Dan is het dag, waar de ring is... Ach... 
 En 't lied ben ik vergeten.
