Vor der edelsten der Frauen, Spaniens Stolz, zwei Ritter steh'n, beide kühn, voll Selbstvertrauen, offen ihr ins Auge seh'n. Beide jugendschön und prächtig, beide sind von Glut verzehrt, beide stützen sie sich mächtig mit der Rechten auf ihr Schwert. Beiden gilt sie mehr als Leben und so viel wie Heldenruhm; einen liebt sie nur, sich geben einem darf als Eigentum. „Wen, o sprich, wirst du beglücken?“ Beide fragend vor ihr steh'n und voll Hoffnung, voll Entzücken offen ihr ins Augen seh'n.
Note for stanza 2, line 5 : "o sprich" becomes "entscheide" on the repeat.
