Wolken wirr verzogen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Wolken wirr verzogen,
Föhren sturmgebogen,
Roter Abendbrand,
Auf den Berg' und Bäumen
Wie in schweren Träumen
Lastet Gottes Hand.

Jahre ohne Segen,
Sturm auf allen Wegen,
Nirgend Heimatland,
Irrweg nur und Fehle!
Schwer auf meiner Seele
Lastet Gottes Hand.

Und aus allen Sünden,
Allen dunkeln Schlünden
Nur noch Ein Begehr:
Endlich Ruhe sehen
Und zu Grabe gehen
Ohne Wiederkehr.

The banished one
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Clouds tumultuously blown away,
Pines bent by the storm,
The red burning of evening,
Upon the mountains and trees
As in heavy dreams
Weighs God's hand.

Years without blessing,
Storm on all pathways,
Nowhere a homeland,
Only wrong paths and blundering!
Heavily upon my soul
Weighs God's hand.

And from amidst all sins,
All dark gorges,
Only one wish now:
To finally see rest
And to go to the grave
Without returning.
