Квартирант сидит на чемодане
и задумчиво расматривает пол:
те же стулья, и кровать, и стол,
а такая же обивка на диване,
и такой же бигос на обед,
но на всём какой-то новый свет...
блещут икры полной прачки Фёклы.

Перегнулся сильный стан во двор.
Как нестройный, шаловливый хор,
верещат намыленные стёкла,
и заплаты голубых небес
обещают тысячи чудес.

Квартирант, квартирант...

квартирант сидит на чемодане.
Стёкла вымыты, опять тоска и тишь.
Фёкла, Фёкла, что же ты молчишь?
Будь хоть ты решительной и яркой;
подойди, возми его за чуб
и ожги огнём весенних губ...

Ух! Квартирант и Фёкла на диване.
О, какой торжествени момент!
,,Ты народ, а я интеллигент,``
говорит он ей среди лобзанья,
,,Наконец то здесь, сейчас вдвоём,
я тебя, а ты меня поймём...``

Le locataire est assis sur sa valise
Et pensif contemple le plancher :
Les mêmes fauteuils, le même lit, la même table,
Le même dessus de lit sur le divan,
Et le même ragoût aux choux pour dîner,
Mais il y a une nouvelle lumière sur tout...
Les chevilles de la femme de ménage  Thékla brillent à la perfection.

Une forte silhouette est penchée dans la cour
Comme une chœur dissonant et malicieux,
Les carreaux savonneux crissent
Et des morceaux de ciel bleu
Promettent mille merveilles.

Le locataire, le locataire...

Le locataire est assis sur sa valise.
Les verres sont propres, à nouveau l'ennui et le silence.
Thékla, Thékla, pourquoi es-tu si silencieuse ?
Tu devrais être plus résolue et brillante ;
Approche-toi, saisis ses cheveux
Et brûle-le du feu de tes lèvres vernales.

Oh ! Le locataire et Thékla sur le divan.
Oh ! Quel moment de fête !
« Tu es du peuple, je suis de l'intelligentsia, »
Lui dit-il, entre deux baisers,
« Mais ici, maintenant tous les deux,
Moi et toi, nous allons nous entendre... »
