He came past! I doubtless ought not to have appeared on his path; but my house is on his route and I had flowers in my hand. He spoke: I perhaps ought not to have been bewitched by his voice; but the dawn was filling my window and it was April in the woods. He loved me: I doubtless ought not to have been so quick to love; but alas, when the heart listens it's always the heart that responds. He left: I perhaps ought not to still be awaiting and wanting him; but tomorrow April will reappear, and without him the sky will be dark.
