Adelaide!

In der spiegelnden Fluth, im Schnee der Alpen,
In des sinkenden Tages [Goldgewölken]1,
Im Gefilde der Sterne stralt dein Bildniß,
Adelaide!

Abendlüftchen im zarten Laube flüstern,
Silberglöckchen des Mais im Grase säuseln,
Wellen rauschen und Nachtigallen flöten:
Adelaide!

Einst, o Wunder! entblüht, auf meinem Grabe,
Eine Blume der Asche meines Herzens;

Solo va il tuo amico per il giardino di primavera,
circondato dolcemente da un'amabile luce incantata,
che trema fra i rami fioriti che ondeggiano,
Adelaide!

Nelle limpide acque, nella neve alpina,
nelle nubi d'oro del giorno che tramonta,
nei campi delle stelle splende la tua immagine,
Adelaide!

Aurette della sera spirano nel tenero fogliame,
le campanelle d'argento di maggio mormorano fra l'erba,
le onde mugghiano e gli usignoli cinguettano:
Adelaide!

Un giorno, o meraviglia! fiorirà sulla mia tomba
un fiore della cenere del mio cuore;
chiaro brilla su ogni petalo scarlatto:
