In der Mondesnacht, in der stillen Nacht
  Wenn da alles schläft, rings kein Auge wacht,
    Da gedenk' ich, süßes Mädchen dein,
    Möchte ach so gerne bei dir sein.

Höre Mond mich an, stiller Wandersmann,
  An ihr Fenster geh, klopfe leise an,
    Schick ihr einen süßen Traum hinein,
    Sage ihr, der Liebste denket dein.

In the moonlit night, in the quiet night
  When everything is sleeping, all around no eye keeps watch,
    Then, sweet maiden, I think of you,
    Would, ah so dearly, love to be with you.

Moon, you silent wanderer, listen to me,
  Go to her window, knock lightly upon it,
    Send a sweet dream in to her,
    Tell her: “Your beloved is thinking of you.”
