Die Mutter sah ihm lange nach,
Er ging zum Wald hinaus;
Der Wind ward still, die Nacht verging,

No vagis al bosc,
mai trobaràs la teva germana,
oh queda’t amb mi a casa!
Allà fora fa un fred molt cru,
i el vent bufa ben fort;
estaràs tot sol a l’extens bosc,
oh queda’t amb mi, fill meu!
Oh mare, mare, deixa-m’hi anar,
eixuga les llàgrimes dels teus ulls,
segur que trobaré la meva germana
i la portaré amb nosaltres.
Fins que no la trobi, no tindré assossec,
aquí no tinc pau;
estic avesat a la neu i al vent,
aviat tornaré amb tu a casa.
La mare l’esperà molt de temps,
ell havia anat al bosc;
el vent es calmà, va passar la nit,
però ell no tornà a casa.
I la neu es va fondre, desaparegué el vent,
l’esclat del sol retornà
i les flors i el fullatge arreu:
la mare restà tota sola.
