Месяц задумчивый, звёзды далёкие
С [синего]¹ неба водами любуются.
Молча смотрю я на воды глубокие:
Тайны волшебные сердцем в них чуются.
Плешут, таятся, ласкательно нежные;
Много в их ропоте силы чарующей:
Слышатся думы и страсти безбрежные.
Голос неведомый, душу волнующий,
Нежит, пугает, наводит сомнение.
Слушать велит-ли он? с места-б не сдвинулся;
Гонит-ли прочь? -- Убежал-бы в смятении.
В глубь-ли зовёт? -- Без оглядки-б я кинулся! ...

Nachdenklicher Mond, weite Sterne,
vom blauen Himmel spiegeln sie sich im Wasser.
Schweigend schaue ich aufs tiefe Wasser.
Das Herz kann zauberhafte Geheimnisse darin fühlen.
Es plätschert, taut, zärtlich und liebevoll.
In  dem Murmeln liegt Zauberkraft,
man hört Gedanken und uferlose Leidenschaften...
eine geheimnisvolle Stimme, die die Seele beunruhigt.
Sie macht zärtlich, erschreckt, weckt Zweifel.
Zuhören befiehlt sie? Ich rührte mich nicht von der Stelle.
Jagt sie mich fort? -- Fortlaufen würde ich, verwirrt.
In die Tiefe ruft sie mich? -- Ohne Bedenken stürzte ich mich hinein.
