In allen Tälern steigt der Abend nieder
Mit seinen Schatten, die voll Kühlung sind.
O sieh! Wie eine Silberbarke schwebt
Der Mond am blauen Himmelssee herauf.
Ich spüre eines feinen Windes Wehn
Hinter den dunklen Fichten!

Der Bach singt voller Wohllaut durch das Dunkel.
Die Blumen blassen im Dämmerschein.
Die Erde atmet voll von Ruh und Schlaf,
Alle Sehnsucht will nun träumen.
Die müden Menschen gehn heimwärts,
Um im Schlaf vergeßnes Glück
Und Jugend neu zu lernen!
Die Vögel hocken still in ihren Zweigen.
Die Welt schläft ein!

Es wehet kühl im Schatten meiner Fichten.
Ich stehe hier und harre meines Freundes;
Ich harre sein zum letzten Lebewohl.

El capvespre baixa a totes les valls
amb les seves ombres plenes de frescor.
Oh, Mira! La lluna està suspesa en el llac del cel
com si fos una barca d'argent.
Sento com bufa un oratge suau 
darrera els foscos avets! 

El rierol canta ple d'harmonia a través de la foscor.
Les flors empal·lideixen en la llum crepuscular.
La terra respira plena de tranquil·litat i de repòs, 
tots els anhels volen ara somiar.
Els homes, cansats, tornen a casa, 
per, en el somni, poder experimentar de nou 
la felicitat i la joventut oblidades!
Els ocells s'arrauleixen en les seves branques.
