Hochgewölbte Blätterkronen,
Baldachine von Smaragd,
Kinder ihr aus fernen Zonen,
Saget mir, warum ihr klagt?

Schweigend neiget ihr die Zweige,
Malet Zeichen in die Luft,
Und der Leiden stummer Zeuge
Steiget aufwärts, süßer Duft.

Weit in sehnendem Verlangen
Breitet ihr die Arme aus,
Und umschlinget wahnbefangen
Öder Leere nicht'gen Graus.

Wohl, ich weiß es, arme Pflanze;
Ein Geschicke teilen wir,
Ob umstrahlt von Licht und Glanze,
Unsre Heimat ist nicht hier!

Und wie froh die Sonne scheidet
Von des Tages leerem Schein,
Hüllet der, der wahrhaft leidet,
Sich in Schweigens Dunkel ein.

Stille wird's, ein säuselnd Weben
Füllet bang den dunklen Raum:
Schwere Tropfen seh ich schweben
An der Blätter grünem Saum.

Dins l'hivernacle
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Corones de flors en elevades voltes,
baldaquí d'esmaragdes,
plantes filles de zones remotes,
digueu-me, per què us lamenteu?

En silenci, inclineu el brancatge,
dibuixant signes en l'aire,
i com mut testimoni del vostre desconsol,
una dolça flaire s'enlaira.

De bat a bat i en delerós anhel,
els vostres braços heu estès,
abraçant en aital quimera
solament buidor i horrible nul·litat.

Prou que ho sé, pobres plantes;
car tenim el mateix destí,
tot i embolcallats de llum radiant,
la nostra pàtria no és aquí!

I així com el sol fuig ara
del buit esclat del jorn,
aquell que de debò pateix,
en la foscor del silenci s'embolcalla.

Torna la calma, una xiuxiuejant tremolor
omple temorosament la fosca estança:
veig grosses gotes que pengen
de la vora verda de les fulles.
