Sehnsucht ist Qual!
Der Herrin wag ich's nicht zu sagen,
Ich will's den dunkeln Eichen klagen
Im grünen Tal:
Sehnsucht ist Qual.
Mein Leib vergeht
Wie schmelzend Eis in bleichen Farben,
Sie sieht mich dursten, lechzen, darben,
Bleibt unerfleht -
Mein Leib vergeht.
Doch mag es sein,
Daß sie an ihrer Macht sich weide!
Ergetzt sie grausam sich an meinem Leide,
So denkt sie mein -
Drum mag es sein.
Sehnsucht ist Qual!
Dem Kühnsten macht die Folter bange,
Ein Grab, darin ich nichts verlange,
Gib mir, o Tal!
Sehnsucht ist Qual.
