Stand der Liebste ganz allein
Wartend an der Ecke.

Rothe Rosen in der Hand,
Kam ich still gegangen,
Griff mich ein's am Schürzenband --
Eh' ich noch ein Wörtchen fand,
War ich schon gefangen.

Knurrend lag ein wildes Thier
Auf den Treppenstufen,
Schloß der Liebste schnell die Thür,
Schob auch noch den Riegel für --
Sollt ich etwa rufen?

Història terrible

Havia de ser precisament tan fosc
a la tanca d’arç blanc?
No hi havia claror de lluna ni d’estrelles,
l’estimat era allà tot sol
esperant a la cantonada.

Amb roses vermelles a la mà,
vaig arribar en silenci,
algú m’agafà pel cordó del davantal –
abans que pogués dir un  sol mot,
ja m’havia capturat.

Grunyint, hi havia un animal salvatge
als graons de l’escala,
el meu estimat tancà prest la porta
i posà el forrellat –
Hauria d’haver cridat?
