by Pierre-Jules-Théophile Gautier (1811 - 1872)
Translation by Jaroslav Vrchlický (1853 - 1912)

Au firmament sans étoile
Language: French (Français)
Our translations:  ENG
Kadidja:
 Au firmament sans étoile,
 La lune éteint ses rayons ;
La nuit nous prête son voile.
         Fuyons ! fuyons !

Ahmed:
 Ne crains-tu pas la colère
 De tes frères insolents,
 Le désespoir de ton père,
De ton père aux sourcils blancs ?

Kadidja:
 Que m'importent mépris, blâme,
 Dangers, malédictions !
C'est dans toi que vit mon âme.
         Fuyons ! fuyons !

Ahmed:
Le cœur me manque ; je tremble,
 Et, dans mon sein traversé,
De leur kandjar il me semble
 Sentir le contact glacé !

Kadidja:
 Née au désert, ma cavale
Sur les blés, dans les sillons,
 Volerait, des vents rivale.
         Fuyons ! fuyons !

Ahmed:
 Au désert infranchissable,
 Sans parasol pour jeter
Un peu d'ombre sur le sable,
 Sans tente pour m'abriter...

Kadidja:
 Mes cils te feront de l'ombre ;
 Et, la nuit, nous dormirons
 Sous mes cheveux, tente sombre.
         Fuyons ! fuyons !

Ahmed:
 Si le mirage illusoire
 Nous cachait le vrai chemin,
Sans vivres, sans eau pour boire,
 Tous deux nous mourrions demain.

Kadidja:
 Sous le bonheur mon cœur ploie ;
 Si l'eau manque aux stations,
Bois les larmes de ma joie.
         Fuyons ! fuyons !

Útěk
Language: Czech (Čeština)  after the French (Français)
Chadidža
Hle měsíc na bezhvězdném nebi
juž shasíná svůj paprslek,
a závojů-li zapotřebí,
noc s nimi můž nám přijít vděk,
        na útěk, na útěk!

Ahmed

Rci, neděsí tě, že nás v zlosti
tví bratří zpupní zaskočí,
neb otec ve své zoufalosti,
on, jenž má šedé obočí?

Chadidža

Co hana mi, co záští zmije,
co nebezpečí, pýcha, vztek.
Jen v tobě duše moje žije,
        na útěk, na útěk!

Ahmed

Mě zachvívá se srdce v hrudi,
ba cítím v ňadrech proboden
tvých bratří handžar, jak mne studí
svým ledným ostnem: Zůstaň jen!

Chadidža

Můj oř jsa v poušti narozený,
sok větrů, hřímá v jejich jek,
přes pole, brázdy, přes kameny
        na útěk, na útěk!

Ahmed

Poušť neobsáhlá bez křovisek,
ni parasolu v ochranu,
by vrhl trochu stínu v písek —
a kolem obzor bez stanu.

Chadidža

Mé obočí stín tmavý dá ti
a polštář mojich údů vděk,
v mých vlasů stanu budem spáti,
        na útěk, na útěk!

Ahmed

A jestli přelud pouště hravý
nám zastře cesty pravý sled,
bez trochy vody, bez potravy
my umřem oba zítra, — hned.

Chadidža

Své srdce štěstím sotva nesu
a bys měl vody dostatek,
pít můžeš slzy mého plesu.
        Na útěk, na útěk!
