Ich grüße dich, o Morgen, 
Dich [Frühlingsduft und]1 Thau,
Dich leises Waldesrauschen,
Dich tiefes Himmelblau! 

Ich frag' euch, zarte Blumen:
Seid ihr für mich erblüht? 
Ich frage dich, mein Vöglein:
Singst du für mich dein Lied?  -- 

Wer aber grüßt mich wieder
In [Frühlingsduft]2 und Thau?
Wer schaut mir, wenn ich [seufze]3,
Tief [in die Augen blau]4?  -- 

Wer sagt zu mir:  mein Blümchen,
Bist du für mich erblüht? 
Wer fragt mich wenn ich singe:
Singst du für mich dein Lied? 

Sei ruhig, Herz!   ob Keiner
Auch einen Gruß dir sagt!  
Sing' deine frohen Lieder,
Wenn auch dich Niemand fragt!  

Die Blume will nur blühen,
Der Vogel singt nur sich;
Drum blühe du und singe,
Ist's auch allein für dich!

So weit man sehen kann,
Jetzt blüht's in allen Wipfeln,
Nun geht das Wandern an:

Die Quellen von den Klüften,
Die Ström' auf grünem Plan,
Die Lerchen hoch in Lüften,
[Der Dichter]2 frisch voran.

Und die im Tal verderben
In trüber Sorgen Haft,
[Er möcht sie alle]3 werben
Zu dieser Wanderschaft.

Und von den Bergen nieder
Erschallt sein [Lied]4 ins Tal,
Und die zerstreuten Brüder
[Faßt Heimweh]5 allzumal.

Da wird die Welt so munter
Und nimmt die Reiseschuh,

Und über Felsenwände
Und auf dem grünen Plan
Das wirrt und jauchzt ohn Ende --
Nun geht das Wandern an!
