First published in Anthologie auf das Jahr 1782, anonymously edited by Schiller with the fake publishing information "Gedrukt in der Buchdrukerei zu Tobolsko", actually published by Johann Benedict Metzler in Stuttgart. The poem (page 147) has "Y." as the author's name.

Es mahnt der Wald, es ruft der Strom: "Du [holdes]1 Bübchen zu uns komm!" Der Knabe [naht, und staunt, und]2 weilt, Und ist von [allem]3 Schmerz geheilt. Aus [Saaten]4 flötet Wachtelschlag, Mit irren [Lichtern]5 spielt der Tag; [Und auf den Blümlein in der Au]6 Erglänzt des Himmels feuchter Thau.
