Drei Lieder um 1890

Song Cycle by Alexander Zemlinsky (1871 - 1942)

1. Das Rosenband
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
  Im Frühlingsgarten fand ich Sie;
Da band ich Sie mit Rosenbändern:
Sie fühlt' es nicht und schlummerte.

Ich sah Sie an; mein Leben hing
Mit diesem Blick' an ihrem Leben:
Ich fühlt' es wohl, und wußt' es nicht.

Doch lispelt' ich Ihr sprachlos zu,
Und rauschte mit den Rosenbändern:
Da wachte Sie vom Schlummer auf.

Sie sah mich an; Ihr Leben hing
Mit diesem Blick' an meinem Leben,
Und um uns ward's Elysium.

2. Lerchengesang
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Ätherische ferne Stimmen,
Der Lerchen himmlische Grüße,
Wie regt ihr mir so süße
Die Brust, ihr lieblichen Stimmen!

Ich schließe leis mein Auge,
Da ziehn Erinnerungen
In sanften Dämmerungen
Durchweht vom Frühlingshauche.

  • by Karl August Candidus (1817 - 1872), "Lerchengesang", appears in Vermischte Gedichte, first published 1869

3. Abendstern
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Was weilst du einsam an dem Himmel,
O lieber Stern? und bist so mild;
Warum entfernt das funkelnde Gewimmel
Der Brüder sich von deinem Bild?
"Ich bin der Liebe treuer Stern,
Sie halten sich von Liebe fern."

So solltest du zu ihnen gehn,
Bist du der Liebe, zaudre nicht!
Wer möchte denn dir widerstehen?
Du süßes eigensinnig Ding.
"Ich säe, schaue keinen Keim,
Und bleibe trauernd still daheim."

Text Authorship:

  • by Johann Baptist Mayrhofer (1787 - 1836), "Abendstern"
