Tadelt nicht den jungen Hirten, Den mein Herz sich auserkor! Alle, die mich sonst umgirrten, Hoben schöner sich hervor: Aber häßlich hin und her! Keiner liebt so treu als er. Zwar beginnt mein Hund zu heulen, Und die Heerde nimmt die Flucht, Wenn mein Liebster, gleich den Eulen, Im Gesange sich versucht: Doch er singe rauch und schwer! Keiner liebt so treu als er. Auch bei unsern Hirtenfesten Zeigt er auf dem grünen Plan Sich als Tänzer nicht zum besten, Und verfehlt oft Tackt und Bahn: Doch er tanze wie ein Bär! Keiner liebt so treu als er. Andre sind wohl schön wie Engel, Singen trefflich, tanzen fein: Dennoch soll der Mann voll Mängel Ewig mein Geliebter sein. Jene flattern hin und her; Keiner liebt so treu als er.

Über [Thal und Fluß]1 getragen, Ziehet rein der Sonne Wagen. Ach, sie regt in ihrem Lauf, So wie deine, meine Schmerzen, Tief im Herzen, Immer morgens wieder auf. Kaum will mir die Nacht noch frommen, Denn die Träume selber kommen Nun in trauriger Gestalt, Und ich fühle dieser Schmerzen, Still im Herzen, Heimlich bildende Gewalt. Schon seit manchen schönen Jahren Seh' ich unten Schiffe fahren; Jedes kommt an seinen Ort; Aber ach, die steten Schmerzen, Fest im Herzen, Schwimmen nicht im Strome fort.
