Bei einem Wirte, wundermild,
Da war ich einst zu Gast,
Ein gold'ner Apfel war sein Schild
An einem langen Aste.

Es war der gute Apfelbaum,
Bei dem ich eingekehret,
Mit süsser Kost und frischem Schaum
Hat er mich wohl genähret.

Es kamen in sein grünes Haus
Viel leichtbeschwingte Gäste;
Sie sprangen frei und hielten Schmaus
Und sangen auf das Beste.

Ich fand ein Bett zu süsser Ruh
Auf weichen grünen Matten;
Der Wirt, er deckte selbst mich zu
Mit seinem kühlen Schatten.

Nun fragt' ich nach der Schuldigkeit,
Da schüttelt' er den Wipfel.
Gesegnet sei er allezeit
Von der Wurzel bis zum Gipfel.

fa ben poc vaig ser-hi hoste,
el seu rètol era una poma daurada
en una llarga branca.

Era una bona pomera
en la que m’havia allotjat,
amb dolç menjar i fresc suc escumós,
m’ha nodrit força bé.

A la seva casa verda
hi arribaren hostes d’ales lleugeres;
ells saltaren lliurement i feren un banquet,
i cantaren d’allò més bé.

Vaig trobar un llit per a un dolç repòs
damunt d’una tova i verda estora;
l’hostaler, ell mateix, em tapà
amb la seva fresca ombra.

Quan li vaig preguntar el que li devia
va sacsejar la capçada.
Que sigui beneït per sempre
des de l’arrel fins al cim.

Sind alle Strassen leer,
Die Wasser stille stehen; 
Ich aber schweif umher,

Die Sonne scheint so trübe, 
Muss früh hinuntergehn,
Erloschen ist die Liebe,
Die Lust kann nicht bestehn.

 Nun geht der Wald zu Ende,
Im Dorfe mach ich halt,
Da wärm ich meine Hände,
Bleibt auch das Herze kalt.

tots els carrers estan buits,
l’aigua s’ha congelat,
però jo vagarejo d’una banda a l’altra,

el sol sembla tan somort,
aviat s’ha de pondre,
l’amor s’ha extingit,
el goig no pot durar.

Adés deixo el bosc
i al poble faré parada,
allà m’escalfaré les mans, 
fred però romandrà el meu cor.

O sprich, wie soll die lange Nacht
Vergehn mir ohne dich?"
 
Am Ufer steht ein Weidenbaum
Und dran gelehnt ein Stein,
Und drunter liegt in schmalem Raum
Ihr kaltes Totenbein.
