Libera me, Domine
Language: Latin
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG FRE GER
Libera me, Domine,
de morte aeterna
in die illa tremenda,
quando cœli movendi sunt et terra;
dum veneris iudicare
sæculum per ignem.

[Tremens factus sum ego,
et timeo,
dum discussio venerit
atque ventura ira.

Dies illa, dies iræ,
calamitatis et miseriæ,
dies magna et amara valde.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine;
et lux perpetua luceat eis.]1

B. Britten sets stanzas 1-3

Verlos mij, Heer (Libera me)
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the Latin
Verlos mij, Heer,
van de eeuwige dood
op die schrikwekkende dag,
Wanneer de hemelen en de aarde bewogen zullen worden;
Wanneer gij de wereld zult komen
oordelen door het vuur.

Beving heeft mij aangegrepen,
en ik ben angstig,
Voor het naderend oordeel
en de komende toorn.

Dag van toorn,
van rampspoed en ellende,
Grote dag vol bitterheid.

Schenk hun de eeuwige rust, Heer;
En moge het blijvende licht hen verlichten.
