Seid'ne Gewänder
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Seid'ne Gewänder,
Spangen von Gold --
Kann es nicht ändern,
Hab's so gewollt.
Bunt sind die Kleider,
Falsch das Geschmeid,
Falsch meine Liebe,
Echt nur mein Leid.
Was ist mein Leben?
Tolles Gewirr,
Lachende Lüge,
Keiner hat lieb mich
Auf dieser Welt,
Tanzen und singen
Muß ich für Geld.
Einmal noch blicke
Freundlich mich an --
Weißt ja nicht morgen,
Daß Du's gethan.
Bin eine Flamme,
Die, windgewiegt,
Lodert und leuchtet
Und früh verfliegt.

Song of the Ghawazee
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Silken garments,
Clasps of gold --
I cannot change it,
I wanted it that way.
The clothes are colourful,
The jewelry is paste,
My love is spurious,
Only my suffering is real.
What is my life?
A mad confusion,
Laughing lies,
A clattering of bells.
No one loves me
Upon this earth,
I must dance and sing
For money.
Once more yet look
Upon me in friendliness --
Tomorrow you shall not remember
That you did so.
I am a flame,
Which, rocked by the wind,
Flares and gleams
And quickly dissipates.
