v zabotakh sujetnogo sveta
on malodushno pogruzhen;

molchit jego svjataja lira;
dusha v kushajet khladnyj son,

byt' mozhet, vsekh nichtozhnej on.

No lish' bozhestvennyj glagol
do slukha chutkogo kosnetsja,
dusha po`eta vstrepenetsja,
kak probudivshijsja orjol.

Toskujet  on v zabavakh mira,
ljudskoj chuzhdajetsja molvy,
k nogam narodnogo kumira
ne klonit gordoj golovy;

bezhit on, dikij i surovyj,
i zvukov, i smjaten'ja poln,
na berega pustynnykh voln,
v shiroko-shumnye dubrovy...
