by Walther von der Vogelweide (1170? - 1228?)
Translation by Anonymous / Unidentified Author

Die verschwiegene Nachtigall
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Mittelhochdeutsch
Unter der Linden auf der Heide,
da unser zweier Ruhe was,
da möget ihr finden, wie wir beide
Blumen brachen und das Gras.
Vor dem Wald in einem Tal,
tandaradei,
schöne sang die Nachtigall,
tandaradei.

Ich kam gegangen zu der Stelle,
mein Friedel war schon kommen eh';
mich hat empfangen mein Geselle,
dass ich bin selig immermeh.
Ob er mir auch Küsse bot,
tandaradei,
seht, wie ist mein Mund so rot,
tandaradei.

Wie mir zu Mute, wüsst' es einer,
behüte Gott, ich grämte mich.
Wie mich der Gute herzte - keiner
erfahre das als er und ich
und ein kleines Vögelein,
tandaradei,
das wird wohl verschwiegen sein,
tandaradei!
