by Friedrich Martin von Bodenstedt (1819 - 1892)
Translation Singable translation by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893)

Tomu, kto khochet zhit' legko
Language: Russian (Русский)  after the German (Deutsch)
Tomu, kto khochet zhit' legko,
druz'ja, neobkhodimo,
chtob v kubke penilos' vino,
ne prolivajas' mimo.
Kto bol'she p'jot, tot i umnej p'jot,
tomu zhivetsja veselej
i legche, i privol'nej.

Kak nad dolinoj cepi gor,
vysoko nad tolpoju stoit mudrec,
chto s rannikh por
k vinu privyk dushoju.
Zlatit vershiny svet dnevnoj
i v vlage denistoj zhivoj
prirodu otrazhajet.

Skazhite, chto nam svet dajot
po-mimo op'janen'ja?
Net, tot neschastnyj, chto ne p'jot,
dostoin sozhalen'ja.
Odno lish' znaju ja cennej;
kogda s Gafizoju mojej
my vremja korotajem.
