Regne, regne, Frühlingsregen,
weine durch die stille Nacht!
Schlummer liegt auf allen Wegen,
nur [dein treuer Dichter]¹ wacht ...
lauscht dem leisen, warmen Rinnen
aus dem dunklen Himmelsdom,
und es löst in [ihm]² tiefinnen
selber sich ein heißer Strom,
läßt sich halten nicht und hegen,
quillt heraus in sanfter Macht ...
Ahndevoll auf stillen Wegen
geht der Frühling durch die Nacht.

Spring rain

Weep through the quiet night!
Slumber rests on every lane,
Just your faithful poet is awake ...
Listening to the soft, warm drizzling
From the dark celestial dome,
And from deep inside
a hot stream breaks forth,
It can't be held back and controlled
It pours gently but firmly ...
On secret ways Spring ominously
Walks through the night.
