Gleitet, wie Schwäne, der wankende Kahn;
Ach, auf der Freude sanftschimmernden Wellen

Denn von dem Himmel herab auf die Wellen
Tanzet das Abendroth rund um den Kahn.

Ueber den Wipfeln des westlichen Haines
Winket uns freundlich der röthliche Schein;
Unter den Zweigen des östlichen Haines

Freude des Himmels und Ruhe des Haines

Midden in glinst'ring van spieg'lende golven
Glijdt als een zwaan heen de wiegende boot:
Ach, op van vreugde zacht glinst'rende golven
Glijdt ook de ziel heen, zo licht als de boot;
Want van de hemel omlaag op de golven
Danst er het avondrood rond om de boot.

Boven de toppen der west'lijke bossen
Glimlacht zo vriend'lijk de rossige schijn;
Onder de takken der oost'lijke bossen
Ritselt de kalmoes in rossige schijn;
Vreugd van de hemel en rust van de bossen
Ademt de ziel in de rossige schijn.

Ach, hoe ontvlucht mij met dauwnatte vleugels,
Weg op de wiegende golven, de tijd;
