Mir träumt', ich komm ans Himmelstor
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Mir träumt', ich komm ans Himmelstor
und finde dich, die Süße!
Du saßest bei dem Quell davor
und wuschest dir die Füße.

Du wuschest, wuschest ohne Rast
den blendend weißen Schimmer,
begannst mit wunderlicher Hast
dein Werk von neuem immer.

Ich frug: "Was badest du dich hier
mit tränennassen Wangen?"
Du sprachts: "Weil ich im Staub mit dir,
so tief im Staub gegangen."

At heaven's gate
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I have a dream: I come to heaven's gate
and I find you, my sweet!
You sat there at the well
and you washed your feet.

You washed, washed without stopping
the blinding white glow,
with strange haste you began
your work anew and anew.

I asked you: "Why do you bathe here
with cheeks wet with tears?"
You said: "Because I have gone through dust with you,
so deep through dust I have gone."
