Lied der Zigeunerin

Funken sprüht mein Lagerfeuer,
sie erlöschen bald im Fluß.
In der Nacht wird niemand stören
unsern letzten Abschiedskuß.

Morgen schon in aller Frühe
ziehet fort mit ihrer Schar
in der Steppen ferne Weiten,
die bisher dein Liebchen war.

Knüpf zum Abschied einen Knoten
in das Tuch mit buntem Rand;
wie des Tuches beide Enden
sich das Herz zum Herzen fand.

Und es löst vielleicht schon morgen
eines andern Mannes Hand
diesen Knoten, den mir deine
liebe Hand zum Abschied band.

Denk an mich, wenn eine andre
sich in deine Arme schmiegt
und mit zarten Liebesliedern
dich in süßen Schlummer wiegt.
