So mancher schwimmt im Überfluß, Hat Haus und Hof und Geld; Und ist doch immer voll Verdruß Und freut sich nicht der Welt. Je mehr er hat, je mehr er will, Nie schweigen seine Klagen still. Wat maal ik toch om geld en goed, Als ik tevreden ben? Geeft God mij maar gezond warm bloed, Dan heb ik goede zin. En zing, voor ’t goeds dat ik geniet, Mijn ochtend- en mijn avondlied. Heel vaak zwemt men in overvloed, Heeft huis en hof en geld, En vindt het leven toch nooit goed; Steeds wordt er pech gemeld. Hoe meer men heeft, hoe meer men wil, Nooit valt de eeuw’ge klaagzang stil. De aard’ heet dan een jammerdal, Maar ik vind haar zo mooi: Geeft vreugde zonder maat en tal, Laat niemand gaan berooid. Het kevertje, de vogel klein Kan blij zelfs met het leven zijn. Voor ons genoegen tooien fraai Zich weiden, berg en bos, En vogels maken zanglawaai, De echo’s barsten los; De leeuw’rik zingt bij ’t werk ons toe, De nachtegaal als wij zijn moe.
