"Über die Berge!" Tönet der Ruf. Frühling ist wieder lachend erschienen, Jubelnd singet der Vögel Chor, Eichen knospen, Maien ergrünen, Zarte Veilchen lauschen hervor. Darum folge fröhlich dem Ruf: "Über die Berge!" "Über die Berge!" Lockt mich der Muth. Durch die tiefen Schluchten sich drängen, Wo im Walde der Sturmwind saust An den Zacken der Felsen zu hangen, Wo in Stürzen der Waldbach braust, Dahin sehnt sich der frische Muth: "Über die Berge!" "Über die Berge!" Dränget der Sinn. Wechselnde Wunder Gottes zu schauen, Ragende Stämme, moosig Gestein; Schönere Blumen reicherer Auen, Kinder des Frühlings, sammle ich ein. Und es strebet des Forschers Sinn: "Über die Berge!" "Über die Berge!" Träumet mein Herz. Wo sich die Hütten der Menschen erheben, Stehet im Thale ein freundliches Haus; Dorthin zieht mich ein heimliches Streben, Dort schaut wartend mein Liebchen heraus. Darum sehnt sich des Wandrers Herz: "Über die Berge!"

« Au-dessus des montagnes ! » Le cri retentit. Le printemps est réapparu en riant, Le chœur des oiseaux chante en jubilant, Les chênes bourgeonnent, De délicates violettes prêtent l'oreille. Tout autour retentit le cri joyeux : « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » Mon courage me pousse. À travers les gouffres profonds Où dans la forêt le vent de la tempête se précipite Pour accrocher sur les pitons rocheux Où le ruisseau de la forêt s'élance vers le bas, Là où mon courage vif m'encourage : « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » Mon esprit me pousse. Pour voir les merveilles changeantes de Dieu, Les troncs dressés, les rochers moussus, Les fleurs plus belles des prairies plus riches, Enfants du printemps, je vous cueille. Et l'esprit d'exploration cherche à avancer : « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » « Au-dessus des montagnes ! » Rêve mon cœur. Là où les huttes des hommes s'élèvent, Dans la vallée il y a une maison amicale ; Là une force secrète m'attire, Là ma bien-aimée regarde dehors, m'attendant. C'est pourquoi le cœur du voyageur aspire à y être : « Au-dessus des montagnes ! »
