Von treuer Liebe Qual:

Und die Nacht sey kühl und traut

Note: This poem inspired a lithographic print by Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carolsfeld (reproduced in the source quoted above), which is a companion piece to his painting Des ritterlichen Jägers Liebeslauschen of 1818, which was also versified by Schlechta.
Note: Schlechta published this poem in a revised version with the title Das Fräulein as the second romance of Liebeslauschen. Zwey Romanzen in 1824. Later he created a further, substantially changed version, which was published posthumously in his Ephemeren.

Allà baix hi ha un cavaller
al blanc raig de la lluna;
la seva cítara ressona
amb el turment d’un amor fidel:

“Oreig, desplega les blaves ales,
suaument, per portar el meu missatge,
crida-la a sortir, sense fer fressa,
a aquesta petita finestra!
Digues-li que en el dosser de fullatge
hi sona un sospir ben conegut;
digues-li que algú encara vetlla
i que la nit és íntima i fresca.
Digues-li que la lluna, tan clara,
escampa la llum a la seva finestra;
digues-li com el bosc, la font,
parlen secretament d’amor!
Deixa que la llum de la teva imatge
resplendeixi a través dels arbres,
que, encisadora, s’entrellaci en
els meus somnis i el meu despertar!”

Però la tendra melodia
no arribà a les seves orelles;
el cantaire grimpà en silenci
a la petita finestra.
I allà dalt, el cavaller tragué
una petita garlanda de flors del seu pit,
la lligà fermament a la reixa
i sospirà: “Floriu en el goig!
I si ella pregunta qui us ha portat,
aleshores, flors, feu-li saber.”
Una veueta rigué a baix:
“Ha estat el teu cavaller Liebesmund (llavis d’amor).”
