Ποικιλόθρον’ ἀθάνατ’, Ἀφρόδιτα, παῖ Дίος δολόπλοκε, λίσσομαί σε, μή μ’ ἄσαισι μηδ’ ὀνίαισι δάμνα, πότνια, θῦμον· ἀλλὰ τυίδ’ ἔλθ’ , αἴ ποτα κἀτέρωτα τὰς ἔμας αὔδας ἀίοισα πήλοι ἔκλυες, πάτρος δὲ δόμον λίποισα χρύσιον ἦλθες ἄρμ’ ὐπασδεύξαισα· καλοι δέ σ’ ἆγον ὤκεες στροῦθοι περὶ γᾶς μελαίνας πύκνα δίννεντες πτέρ’ ἀπ’ ὠράνωἴθερος διὰ μέσσω. αἶψα δ’ ἐξίκοντο· σὺ δ’, ὦ μάκαιρα, μειδιαίσαισ’ ἀθανάτωι προσώπωι ἤρε’, ὄττι δηὖτε πέπονθα κὤττι δηὖτε κάλημμι κὤττι μοι μάλιστα θέλω γένεσθαι μαινόλαι θύμωι. ῾τίνα δηὖτε Πείθω μαῖσ’ ἄγην ἐς σὰν φιλότατα, τίς σ’, ὦ Ψάπφ’, ἀδικήει; καὶ γὰρ αἰ φεύγει, ταχέως διώξει, αἰ δὲ δῶρα μὴ δέκετ’, ἀλλὰ δώσει, αἰ δὲ μὴ φίλει, ταχέως φιλήσει κωὐκ ἐΘέλοισα. ᾽ ἔλΘε μοι καὶ νῦν, χαλέπαν δὲ λῦσον ἐκ μερίμναν, ὄσσα δὲ μοι τέλεσσαι θῦμος ἰμέρρει, τέλεσον, σὺ δ’ αὔτα σύμμαχος ἔσσο.

Toi qui sièges sur un trône multicolore, immortelle Aphrodite, fille de Dieu, tisseuse de ruses, je te supplie, ne condamne pas mon coeur à des douleurs o u des tourments, o puissante! Mais viens vite, comme autrefois, entendant mes cris, tu es venue, quittant la maison dorée de ton père harnassant to chariot trié par une multitude de beaux moineaux. Au-dessus de la terre noire, ils battaient des ailes et descendaient au milieu de l'éther. Rapîdement, ils sont venus! et toi, O divine, avec un sourire sur ton immortel visage, tu m'as demandé: 'Qu'est-ce qui t'arrive aujourd'hui? Pourquoi m'as-tu encore appelée? Quel est le plus profond désir de ton coeur troublé? Qui dois je convaincre de retourner à ton amitié? Qui, O Sappho, te blesse? Bien qu'elle te fuit, bientôt elle te poursuivra.
