Wie soll ich's bergen, wie soll ich's tragen,
Was Du mir selber ins Herz gelegt?
Kann es nicht hehlen und kann es nicht sagen,
Was meine ganze Seele bewegt.

All meine Sinne und alle Gedanken,
Unstät und flüchtig verlassen sie mich,
Dich zu umwinden wie klimmende Ranken,
Klammern sich fester und fester an Dich.

Immer Dich sehen möcht' ich und hören,
Immer Dir schauen ins Angesicht,
Könnt' ich mir nur Deinen Schatten beschwören!
Lieberes zeigt ja die Sonne mir nicht. 

Aber nach Worten hasch' ich vergebens,
Was ich empfinde, verschweigen sie doch,
