Im wogenden Tanze, beim Feste, wo lärmender Jubel so laut, da hab' ich dich träumend und sinnend, geheimnissvoll blickend erschaut. Da klang deine Stimme so lieblich, so seelenvoll warm zu mir her, wie Glocken von ferne, so klang es, wie Wellengewoge am Meer! Du sahst mich mit dunkelen Augen so sinnend, so träumerisch an, du lachtest halb fröhlich, halb traurig, dass nie ich vergessen es kann! Und wenn ich zur Ruhe geh' einsam, wenn müde in Schlummer ich sank, dann sah ich im Traume dich fragend, und hör' deiner Stimme Gesang. Verzweiflung und Hoffnung bald, Schmerz und Wonne dringt mir in die Träume hinein. Ich weiss ja nicht, ob ich dich liebe, doch glaub' ich, es muss wohl so sein.
