1. Nel meraviglioso mese di maggio
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Nel meraviglioso mese di maggio,
quando tutti i boccioli si schiudevano,
allora nel mio cuore
l'amore è entrato.

Nel meraviglioso mese di maggio,
quando tutti gli uccelli cantavano,
allora ho confessato a lei
il mio struggimento e il mio desiderio.

Aus meinen Tränen sprießen

Und vor deinem Fenster soll klingen
Das Lied der Nachtigall.

2. Dalla mie lacrime nascono
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Dalla mie lacrime nascono
tanti fiori che sbocciano,
e i miei sospiri diventano
un coro di usignoli.

E se tu mi hai caro, bimba,
regalo a te tutti i miei fiori
e alla tua finestra risuonerà
il canto degli usignoli.

3. La rosa, il giglio, la colomba
Language: Italian (Italiano)
La rosa, il giglio, la colomba, il sole,
li amai tutti, un tempo, in voluttà d'amore.

lei sola, voluttà di tutti gli amori,
è rosa e giglio e colomba e sole.
Io amo soltanto
la piccola, graziosa, pura, l'unica.

Language: Italian (Italiano)
Quando ti guardo negli occhi,
svanisce ogni mia pena e dolore;
e quando bacio la tua bocca
si risana tutto il mio essere.

Quando giaccio sul tuo petto,
scende su di me una gioia celeste;
ma quando dici: Ti amo!
piango lacrime amare.

Language: Italian (Italiano)
Voglio tuffare la mia anima
nel calice del giglio;
il giglio con dolce suono rievocherà
una canzone dell'amore mio.

La canzone tremerà con un brivido
come il bacio della sua bocca,
che lei mi diede una volta
in un'ora dolcissima e stupenda!

6. Im Rhein, im schönen Strome
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Im Rhein, im heiligen Strome,
Da spiegelt sich in den Well'n
Mit seinem großen Dome
Das große, heil'ge Köln.

Im Dom da steht ein Bildnis,
Auf goldnem Leder gemalt;
In meines Lebens Wildnis
Hat's freundlich hineingestrahlt.

Es schweben Blumen und Eng'lein
Um unsre liebe Frau;
Die Augen, die Lippen, die Wänglein,
Die gleichen der Liebsten genau.

6. Nel Reno, nel sacro fiume
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Nel Reno, nel sacro fiume,
si specchia nelle onde
col suo imponente duomo
la grande, sacra Colonia.

Nel duomo c'è un'immagine
dipinta su cuoi dorato;
nei momenti più aspri della mia vita
mi risplende amica.

Si librano fiori ed angeli
intorno alla Nostra Signora;
i suoi occhi, le labbra, le sue guance
somigliano proprio al mio amore.

7. Ich grolle nicht, und wenn das Herz auch bricht
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich grolle nicht, und wenn das Herz auch bricht,
Ewig verlor'nes Lieb, ich grolle nicht.
Wie du auch strahlst in Diamantenpracht,
Es fällt kein Strahl in deines Herzens Nacht.
Das weiß ich längst.

Ich grolle nicht, und wenn das Herz auch bricht,
Ich sah dich ja im Traume,
Und sah die Nacht in deines Herzens Raume,
Und sah die Schlang', die dir am Herzen frißt,
Ich sah, mein Lieb, wie sehr du elend bist.

7. Io non mi lamento
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Io non mi lamento, anche se il cuore mi si spezza,
amore perduto per sempre! Io non mi lamento.
Se anche tu splendessi nella luce del diamante,
non cadrebbe un raggio nella notte del tuo cuore.
Questo lo so da tempo.

Io non mi lamento, anche se il cuore mi si spezza.
Ti ho visto in sogno,
e ho visto la notte nel tuo cuore,
ho visto il serpente che ti divora il cuore,
ho visto, amore mio, quanto soffri.

8. Und wüßten's die Blumen, die kleinen
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Und wüßten's die Blumen, die kleinen,
Wie tief verwundet mein Herz,
Sie würden mit mir weinen,
Zu heilen meinen Schmerz.

Und wüßten's die Nachtigallen,
Wie ich so traurig und krank,
Sie ließen fröhlich erschallen
Erquickenden Gesang.

Und wüßten sie mein Wehe,
Die goldenen Sternelein,
Sie kämen aus ihrer Höhe,
Und sprächen Trost mir ein.

Sie alle können's nicht wissen,
Nur eine kennt meinen Schmerz;
Sie hat ja selbst zerrissen,
Zerrissen mir das Herz.

8. Se sapessero i fiorellini
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Se sapessero i fiorellini, i piccoli,
come profondo è ferito il mio cuore,
piangerebbero con me,
per risanare il mio dolore.

Se sapessero gli usgnoli,
quanto sono triste e malato,
farebbero risuonare il canto
lieto e consolatore.

Se sapessero il mio tormento
le stelline d'oro,
verrebbero giù dal loro cielo
e mi direbbero parole di conforto.

Tutti loro non possono saperlo,
Una sola conosce il mio dolore;
lei che mi ha spezzato,
mi ha spezzato il cuore.

Language: Italian (Italiano)
E' un suono di flauti e violini,
trombe squillano insieme;
danza nel girotondo nuziale

Language: Italian (Italiano)

verso le alture boscose,
là si scioglie in pianto
il mio troppo grande dolore.

Language: Italian (Italiano)
Un giovanotto ama una fanciulla,

il giovanotto se ne accora.

E' una storia vecchia,
ma resta sempre nuova;
e a chi vive questa storia,
si spezza il cuore in due.

Mi svegliai, e la lacrima
scorreva ancora già peril mio viso.

Ho pianto in sogno.
Sognavo che tu mi lasciavi.
Mi svegliai, e piansi
ancora amaramente.

Ho pianto in sogno.
Sognavo che tu mi amavi ancora.
Mi svegliai, e ancora sempre
scorre il fiume della mie lacrime.

14. Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich
Und sehe dich freundlich grüßen,
Und laut aufweinend stürz' ich mich
Zu deinen süßen Füßen.

Du siehest mich an wehmütiglich
Und schüttelst das blonde Köpfchen;
Aus deinen Augen schleichen sich
Die Perlentränentröpfchen.

Du sagst mir heimlich ein leises Wort
Und gibst mir den Strauß von Zypressen.
Ich wache auf, und der Strauß ist fort,
Und 's Wort hab' ich vergessen.

14. Tutte le notti in sogno
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Tutte le notti in sogno ti vedo,
e ti vedo salutare amica,
e piangendo forte io mi prostro
dolcemente ai tuoi piedi.

Tu mi guardi malinconica
e scuoti la testina bionda;
dai tuoi occhi scivolano
gocce di perle.

Tu mi dici in segreto una parola sommessa
e mi offri un mazzo di rami di cipresso.
Io mi sveglio, ed il mazzo è scomparso,
e la parola, l'ho dimenticata.

15. Aus alten Märchen winkt es
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Aus alten Märchen winkt es
Hervor mit weißer Hand,
Da singt es und da klingt es
Von einem Zauberland;

Wo bunte Blumen blühen
Im gold'nen Abendlicht,
Und lieblich duftend glühen,
Mit bräutlichem Gesicht;

Und grüne Bäume singen
Uralte Melodei'n,
Die Lüfte heimlich klingen,
Und Vögel schmettern drein;

Und Nebelbilder steigen
Wohl aus der Erd' hervor,
Und tanzen luft'gen Reigen
Im wunderlichen Chor;

Und blaue Funken brennen
An jedem Blatt und Reis,
Und rote Lichter rennen
Im irren, wirren Kreis;

Und laute Quellen brechen
Aus wildem Marmorstein.
Und seltsam in den Bächen
Strahlt fort der Widerschein.

Ach, könnt' ich dorthin kommen,
Und dort mein Herz erfreu'n,
Und aller Qual entnommen,
Und frei und selig sein!

Ach! jenes Land der Wonne,
Das seh' ich oft im Traum,
Doch kommt die Morgensonne,
Zerfließt's wie eitel Schaum.

15. Dalle vecchie fiabe qualcosa mi chiama
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Dalle vecchie fiabe qualcosa mi chiama,
mi fa cenno una mano bianca,
e canta e risuona
l'incanto di un paese magico;

dove fiori colorati sbocciano
nella luce dorata della sera,
e ardono con gentile profumo
nel loro volto di sposa;

e verdi alberi cantano
antichissime melodie,
le aure suonano lievi
e gli uccelli cantano con loro;

e immagini di nebbia sorgono
fuori dalla terra,
e danzano carole aeree
in strani cori;

e bagliori azzurri splendono
su ogni foglia e ogni ramoscello
e luci rossastre si rincorrono
in circoli folli e fantasiosi;

e fonti sonore sgorgano
da selvaggi blocchi di marmo,
e strano nei ruscelli
risplende il riflesso.

Ah, potessi anch'io venire,
e là rallegrare il mio cuore,
e deporre ogni dolore,
ed essere libero e beato!

Ah! Quel paese della gioia
che vedo spesso in sogno,
al primo sole del mattino,
svanisce come lieve schiuma.

16. Die alten, bösen Lieder
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die alten, bösen Lieder,
Die Träume bös' und arg,
Die laßt uns jetzt begraben,
Holt einen großen Sarg.

Hinein leg' ich gar manches,
Doch sag' ich noch nicht was;
Der Sarg muß sein noch größer,
Wie's Heidelberger Faß.

Und holt eine Totenbahre,
Und Bretter fest und dick;
Auch muß sie sein noch länger,
Als wie zu Mainz die Brück'.

Und holt mir auch zwölf Riesen,
Die müssen noch stärker sein
Als wie der starke Christoph
Im Dom zu Köln am Rhein.

Die sollen den Sarg forttragen,
Und senken ins Meer hinab,
Denn solchem großen Sarge
Gebührt ein großes Grab.

Wißt ihr, warum der Sarg wohl
So groß und schwer mag sein?
Ich senkt' auch meine Liebe
Und meinen Schmerz hinein.

16. I vecchi canti malvagi
Language: Italian (Italiano)
I vecchi canti malvagi,
i sogni brutti e maligni,
dobbiamo ora seppellirli,
prendete un grande sarcofago.

Dentro vi metto tante cose,
ma non dico ancora quali,
la bara deve essere ancora più grande
della botte di Heidelberg.

E prendete una grande bara
di assi forti e grosse;
deve essere ancor più lunga
del ponte di Magonza.

E prendete anche dodici giganti,
che devono essere ancora più forti
del grande San Cristoforo
del duomo di Colonia sul Reno.

Questi porteranno la bara
e la getteranno nel mare;
perché a un sarcofago così grande
si addice una grande tomba.

Sapete perché il sarcofago
sarà così grande e così pesante?
Io verso il mio amore
e il mio dolore là dentro.
