Rauschendes Bächlein,
So silbern und hell,
Eilst zur Geliebten
So munter und schnell?
Ach trautes Bächlein
Mein Bote sey Du;
Bringe die Grüße
Des Fernen ihr zu.

All' ihre Blumen
Im Garten gepflegt,
Die sie so lieblich
Am Busen trägt,
Und ihre Rosen
In purpurner Gluth,
Bächlein, erquicke
Mit kühlender Fluth.

[Wenn]¹ sie am Ufer,
In Träume versenkt,
Meiner gedenkend
Das Köpfchen hängt;
Tröste die Süße
Mit freundlichem Blick,
Denn der Geliebte
Kehrt bald zurück.

Neigt sich die Sonne
Mit röthlichem Schein,
Wiege das Liebchen
In Schlummer ein.
Rausche sie murmelnd
In süße Ruh,

Brusende lille bekk,
sølvskimrende og klar,
iler du til min elskede
så munter og snar?
Akk, pålitelige lille bekk,
vær mitt sendebud;
Overbring henne hilsener
fra det fjerne.

Alle de blomster
hun pleier i hagen,
de hun så kjærlig
bærer ved sitt bryst,
og rosene
i purpurglød - 
Lille bekk, forfrisk dem
med kjølende flod.

Når hun ved elvebredden
sitter hensunket i drømmer,
og tenker på meg
med hengende hode,
Da trøst den vakre
med et vennlig blikk,
for hennes elskede
vil snart vende tilbake.

Når solen synker
med det rødlige skinn,
vugg min elskede
i søvnen inn.
Brus henne mumlende
til stille ro,
hvisk til henne 
drømmer av kjærlighet.
