Cherchons les sentiers A demi frayés Où flotte, Comme dans la mer, Un demi-jour vert De grotte. Des halliers touffus Un soupir confus S'éléve Si doux qu'on dirait Que c'est la forêt Qui rêve... Chante doucement ; Dans mon coeur d'amant J'adore Entendre ta voix Au calme du bois Sonore. L'oiseau, d'un élan, Courbe, en s'envolant, La branche Sous l'ombrage obscur La source au flot pur S'épanche. Viens t'asseoir au bord Où les boutons d'or Foisonnent... The sun burns

The sun burns the flowers that you pick as you go - come hide from its heat underneath the deep leaves. Let's seek out the paths that are only half open, where floats, as in the sea, a green cave-like twilight. From the leafy thickets a vague sighing rises up, so soft it's as if the forest itself is dreaming... Sing softly; in my amorous heart I adore hearing your voice in the calm of the sonorous woods. The bird, in one movement as it takes off, bends the branch; under the dark shade the pure-flowing spring pours out. Come sit on the verge where buttercups bloom in profusion... the wind on the water jostles the reeds which resound. And stay sitting thus full of the sweet desire to look lovely, with a rose in your teeth, and a naked foot in the clear water.
