Voici l'orme qui balance

Voici l'orme qui balance
Son ombre sur le sentier:
Voici le jeune églantier,
Le bois où dort le silence.
Le banc de pierre où le soir
Nous aimions à nous asseoir.

Voici la voûte embaumée
D'ébéniers et de lilas,
Où, lorsque nous étions las,
Ensemble, [ô]1 ma bien aimée!
Sous des guirlandes de fleurs,
Nous laissions fuir les chaleurs.

Voici le marais que ride
Le saut du poisson d'argent;
Dont la grenouille en nageant
Trouble le miroir humide;
Comme autrefois, les roseaux
Baignent leurs pieds dans ses eaux.

Comme autrefois, la pervenche,
Sur le velours vert des prés
Par le printemps diaprés,
Aux baisers du soleil penche
À moitié rempli de miel
Son calice bleu de ciel.

[Comme autrefois, l'hirondelle
Rase en passant les donjons,
Et le cygne dans les joncs
Se joue et lustre son aile;]1
L'air est pur, le gazon doux ...
Rien n'a donc changé que vous.

Infidelity
Language: English  after the French (Français)
 Here is the elm whose shadow
 sways on the path;
 here is the young briar rose,
 the wood where silence sleeps,
 and the stone bench where we loved to sit
 in the evenings.

 Here is the bower
 smelling of ebony and lilacs
 where we went together, my love,
 when we were tired,
 to escape the heat
 under the garlands of flowers.

 The air is pure, the grass is soft.
 Nothing has changed except you!
