by Friedrich Heinrich Karl, Freiherr de La Motte-Fouqué (1777 - 1843)

Wenn alles eben käme
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wenn alles eben käme,
wie du gewollt es hast,
und Gott dir gar nichts nähme
und gäb dir keine Last,
wie wär's [da]1 um dein Sterben,
du Menschenkind bestellt?
Du müsstest [gar]2 verderben,
so lieb wär dir die Welt!

Nun fällt, eins nach dem andern,
manch süßes Band dir ab,
und heiter kannst du wandern
gen Himmel durch das Grab,
dein Zagen ist gebrochen,
und deine Seele hofft;
dies ward schon oft gesprochen,
doch spricht man's nie zu oft.
