Est-ce le matin ? Quel soleil se lève ?
Comme le soleil est grand.
Sont-ce des oiseaux ? Leurs voix sont partout.
Il fait clair partout, mais ce n'est pas le jour.
Il y a du bruit partout, mais ce n'est pas la voix des oiseaux.
Ce sont les poutres qui éclairent,
Ce sont les fenêtres qui crient.
Et, rouges, elles crient aux ennemis,
qui sont dehors dans un pays qui flamboie, elles crient : au feu.
Et le visage brisé de sommeil, ils se bousculent tous,
moitié en armes, moitié nus, de chambre en chambre,
d'une aile à l'autre, et cherchent les escaliers.
Et en suffocant les clairons balbutient :
Rassemblement, rassemblement !
