Hier lieg' ich auf dem Frühlingshügel:
Die Wolke wird mein Flügel,
Ein Vogel fliegt mir voraus.
Ach, sag' mir, all-einzige Liebe,
Wo du bleibst, daß ich bei dir bliebe,
Doch du und die Lüfte, ihr habt kein Haus.

Der Sonnenblume gleich steht mein Gemüte offen,
Sehnend,
Sich dehnend,
In Lieben und Hoffen.
Frühling, was bist du gewillt?
Wann werd' ich gestillt?

Die Wolke seh' ich wandeln und den Fluß,
Es dringt der Sonne goldner Kuß
Mir tief bis in's Geblüt hinein;
Die Augen, wunderbar berauschet,
Thun, als schliefen sie ein,
Nur noch das Ohr dem Ton der Biene lauschet.
Ich denke Dieß und denke Das,
Ich sehne mich, und weiß nicht recht, nach was:
Halb ist es Lust, halb ist es Klage;
Mein Herz, o sage:
Was webst du für Erinnerung
In golden grüner Zweige Dämmerung?

In primavera

Me ne sto qui disteso sulla collina primaverile;
la nube diventa la mia ala,
un uccello mi passa davanti in volo.
Ah, dimmi, mio unico bene,
dove ti trovi, che io possa raggiungerti!
Ma tu e le brezze, voi non avete casa.

Simile al girasole il mio animo è aperto,
struggendosi,
allargandosi
in amori e speranze.
Primavera, che intenzioni hai?
quando potrò placarmi?

La nuvola vedo migrare ed il fiume,
penetra il bacio dorato del sole
in me nel profondo, fino al sangue;
gli occhi, magicamente incantati,
fanno come se prendessero sonno,
solo l’orecchio ormai ascolta il ronzio delle api.

Io penso questo e penso quello,
ho nostalgia, e non so bene di che:
per metà è desiderio, per metà rimpianto:
cuor mio, su dimmi
quali memorie stai intessendo
nel dorato crepuscolo dei rami verdi?
Irrevocabili giorni del passato!
