Hier lieg' ich auf dem Frühlingshügel:
Die Wolke wird mein Flügel,
Ein Vogel fliegt mir voraus.
Ach, sag' mir, all-einzige Liebe,
Wo du bleibst, daß ich bei dir bliebe,
Doch du und die Lüfte, ihr habt kein Haus.

Der Sonnenblume gleich steht mein Gemüte offen,
Sehnend,
Sich dehnend,
In Lieben und Hoffen.
Frühling, was bist du gewillt?
Wann werd' ich gestillt?

Die Wolke seh' ich wandeln und den Fluß,
Es dringt der Sonne goldner Kuß
Mir tief bis in's Geblüt hinein;
Die Augen, wunderbar berauschet,
Thun, als schliefen sie ein,
Nur noch das Ohr dem Ton der Biene lauschet.
Ich denke Dieß und denke Das,
Ich sehne mich, und weiß nicht recht, nach was:
Halb ist es Lust, halb ist es Klage;
Mein Herz, o sage:
Was webst du für Erinnerung
In golden grüner Zweige Dämmerung?

Aquí estic damunt el tossal a primavera,
els núvols esdevenen les meves ales,
un ocell vola al meu davant.
Ai, digues-me, sol i únic amor
on romans, perquè jo resti al teu costat!
Però tu i el vent no teniu cap casa.

Com el gira-sol, el meu esperit resta obert,
anhelant,
engrandint-se
en amor i esperança.
Primavera, a què estàs disposada?
Quan estaré assossegat?

Veig passar els núvols i el riu,
el bes daurat del sol penetra
profundament a les meves venes;
els meus ulls, meravellosament embriagats,
fan, com si s’adormissin,
només les orelles senten el brunzir de les abelles.
Penso en això i en allò,
em deleixo i no sé ben bé per a què:
la meitat és goig, la meitat lament;
oh cor meu, digues,
quins records remous
al verd brancam del daurat crepuscle?
