Весело цветики в поле пестреют; их по ночам освежает роса, днём их лучи благодатные греют, ласково смотрят на них небеса. С бабочкой пестрой, с гудящей пчелою, с ветром им любо вести разговор, Весело цветикам в поле весною, мил им родимого поля простор! Вот они видят в окне, за решёткой, тихо качается бледный цветок... Солнца не зная, печальный и кроткий, вырос он в мрачных стенах одинок. Цветикам жаль его, бедного, стало, хором они к себе брата зовут: ,,Солнце тебя никогда не ласкало, брось эти стены, зачахнёшь ты тут!`` ,,Нет!`` - отвечал он, - ,,хоть весело в поле, и наряжает вас ярко весна, но не завидую вашей я доле и не покину сырого окна. Пышно цветите! Своей красотою радуйте, братья, счастливых людей. Я буду цвесть для того, кто судьбою сонца лишён и полей. Я буду цвесть для того, кто страдает. Узника я утешаю один. Пусть он, взглянуз на меня, вспоминает зелень родимых долин!``

Gaiement les petites fleurs se dressent dans le champ ; La nuit elles sont rafraîchies par la rosée, Le jour elles sont réchauffées par les chauds rayons. Le ciel les regarde tendrement. Avec le papillon coloré, avec les abeilles qui bourdonnent, Avec le vent elles ont des conversations plaisantes, Gaiement les petites fleurs sont dans le champ au printemps, Elles ont grandi dans l'espace de leur champ natal. Ici elles voient à la fenêtre , derrière la grille, Une fleur pâle se balance doucement... Elle ne connaît pas le soleil, triste et douce, Elle a grandi solitaire dans l'ombre des murs. Les petites fleurs sont désolées pour elle, la pauvre, Elles appellent en chœur leur sœur : « Le soleil ne t'a jamais caressée, Abandonne ces murs, ici tu vas dépérir ! » « Non ! » répond-elle, « bien que vous vous amusiez dans le champ, Et que le printemps vous habille de lumière, Je n'envie pas votre sort, Et je ne veux pas quitter la fenêtre humide. Fleurissez magnifiquement ! Par votre beauté Réjouissez, mes sœurs, les gens heureux. Je fleurirai pour ceux qui par le destin Sont privés de soleil et de champs.
