Hi ha empentes, gaubança, cançons i brogit per els atrotinats carrers de Roma, embogits branden ben alt la bandera, la mascarada corre frenètica. Amunt i avall de la Via del Corso circula la lleugera multitud de carruatges, allà la gran batalla de flors del carnaval s’està lliurant. Amb roses i violes es fan escaramusses, Ei! com volen els rams! T’he tocat – Bona sort! Els ulls d’ella brillen, -- segueix llançant – guanyaràs! També tu, cor meu, estigues alegre avui, oblida el que has sofert, deixa que els vells temps i les velles penes es cobreixin de flors!
