Ik heb mij ingezogen De lente, trouw en fijn, Dat zij, de aard' ontvlogen, Nog in mijn borst zou zijn. Hier zijn de hemelkleuren, Hier velden, groen en laag, De bloemen hier, de geuren, De bloeiende rozenhaag. En aan mijn boezem vlijt zich, Met zoete liefdeszucht, De liefste, die nog hevig Naar lente verlangt terug. Zij leunt dicht om te luist'ren En hoort, gestild haar dorst, De lentestromen ruisen Diep in haar dichters borst. Daar borrelen de lied'ren; Er stroomt uit die spelonk De volste lenteweelde, Die God mij, dichter, schonk. En als zij, daarvan dronken, Rondkijkt naar kant en zoom, Bloeit mede door haar vonken De aard', een lentedroom.
