Nun trinke Valet und fahre dahin! 
Frisch an, Geselle, frisch an! 
Ein tapferes Herz und ein fröhlicher Sinn,
Das hilft in den Sattel dem Mann.
Was rüstig begonnen,
Ist halb schon gewonnen,
Drum vorwärts! und biete dem Glücke die Hand 
Zu Wege, zu Stege, zu Wasser und Land.

Wenn dich in der Ferne die Schwalbe umkreist,
Dann denke, so fliegt sie auch hier,
Das Tischlein, an dem du noch gestern gespeist,
Giebt heut einem Andern Quartier.
So werden getrieben,
Die gerne geblieben,
Es rostet kein Riegel, es bindet kein Band 
Zu Wege, zu Stege, zu Wasser und Land.

 Wenn sauer der Wind um die Nase dir weht,
Was thut es nur immer grad' aus! 
Und hat dir ein Mädel den Kopf verdreht,
Reich ihr den Vergißmeinnichtstrauß.
Wo immer auch winken 
Dir Becher zum Trinken,
Da schüttle nicht, lösch' in der Kehle den Brand

Nun werde gesprochen das letzte Wort,
Valet, Geselle! Valet! 
Was hier verwelket, das blühet dort,

So hält doch in Stürmen die Treue noch Stand

Ara beu per el comiat i marxa!
Prest, company, prest!
Un cor valent i un esperit alegre
ajuden a un home a muntar a la sella.
El que es comença amb vigor
ja es té mig guanyat,
així doncs, endavant! I dóna la mà a la bona sort
pels camins, pels ponts, per l’aigua i la terra.

Quan a la llunyania una oreneta giravolti al teu entorn
pensa que també vola aquí,
la petita taula en la que ahir vas menjar
avui dóna lloc a un altre.
Així es fa marxar
els que de grat s’haurien quedat,
cap forrellat es rovella, cap lligam subjecta
pels camins, pels ponts, per l’aigua i la terra.

Quan inclement bufi el vent al teu nas,
què importa, segueix sempre endavant!
I si una noia et fa trastornar el cap,
dóna-li el ram de miosotis.
Arreu on t'enllepolin
les copes per beure,
no diguis que no, apaga la cremor a la gola
pels camins, pels ponts, per l’aigua i la terra.

Ara que la darrera paraula sigui dita,
adéu company! Adéu!
El que aquí es marceix, allà floreix,
i tot resta en paus.
Quan es perdi el so
del que antany s’havia cantat,
així, enmig de tempestes, la fidelitat es mantindrà
pels camins, pels ponts, per l’aigua i la terra.
